I saw God

Published by dzanang under reflection Edit This

I was volunteering as a missionary in Benguet, Philippines. I had just graduated in college and the first thing I wanted to do was to devote one year of my life as missionary working for the Lord.

Being an introvert and very reserved I never told my family about this plan of mine. So when I went to 1000 Missionary Movement for training they were kinda shocked. I was also shocked at the kind of reaction I got from them.

Anyway, when I got to Benguet, I had more time to spend by myself. I became addicted to reading Ellen White’s books apart from my Bible. During this time my Korean partner was always receiving letters and packages from her friends and family while I had nothing. I asked for some packages too–little things that would mean a lot to me. But nothing. Instead, I received a word from my sister that they were expecting me to find a job and support my mother. I was hurt. I thought what I was doing was something they would be proud of.

Anyway, I resorted to reading my Bible and through prayers I asked God to help my family understand that what I was doing was not for me and that it was a noble idea.

I was feeling depressed and each time I cried to God in prayer. Then I had this dream. I saw God walking in front of me. He was taller than anyone else and had a wider body frame. His robe was white as snow and untainted. Peter was walking behind Him and he looked at me with a smile. I wasn’t able to say a word. But a Bible text flashed before me. Matthew 6:24 “Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any man would come after me, let him give up all, and take up his cross, and come after me.”

When I woke up I told my Korean partner about it and she said that if I saw God’s face I would have died. I recalled the time when God appeared to Moses on Mt. Sinai. He said that He will only show His back. And that’s what He showed me too.
