Had I Lived in Jesus’s Time Would I Have Believed Him
I have had this nagging question in me that surfaces everytime a discussion about Jesus and His ministry crops up. An automatic awareness of people doubting Jesus as the Messiah sets in almost instantly.
How could they not believe Him despite all the miracles He performed? How could they–the Pharisees and the Saducees hate him by being so intimate with the people of the masses? Consequently, I developed a curiosity in me. Had I lived in Jesus’s time, would I have believe Him as the Messiah as I do now?
Let’s say He grew up in the same block as I did. I knew His parents very well and I often passed by their house when I go to the market. Since my father was a carpenter too, he went to Joseph’s shop many a couple of times. And when my father died, my mother asked Joseph to repair our house. And now his son, Jesus is claiming that He is the Messiah!
As I mentioned this concern of mine to my Sabbath School Class, Pat gave me some insights and with God’s help it opened my eyes. Pat was saying that with our yearning to learn about Him, it doesn’t matter if we lived before or now. We would have believed Him the same. And I am convinced. No matter which period I lived and exist, I would have been the same. I would have believe in Jesus the same way as I do now.
