My idea of the New Earth

Published by dzanang under reflection Edit This

A year ago there was a topic in the Sabbath School lesson discussing the seemingly meaningless cycle of life. We all know it was the wise King Solomon who wrote the famous chapter on vanities. Despite being rich and famous, King Solomon openly express his frustrations and dissatisfaction out his life.

Living in this generation, do we feel the same way as Solomon sometimes? That despite all the good things we get in the end it means nothing at all.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Yesterday I wrote about death and now it seems I’m writing about the hopelessness of this life. Actually, it’s the opposite. If you notice the title of this devotional is “My idea of the New Earth.”

What about Solomon? Well, he sounded cynical about the meaninglessness of life. What if we could live more than a hundred years? Solomon would have been the more displeased.

Anyway, I hope you would forgive me if flip the coin now.
What would you do if you could live a thousand years?  Wouldn’t it be fun to live a thousand years doing all you want for fun? It would even be better to live forever and not grow old.

Can you imagine having fun all the time and not to worry about tomorrow or anything. There’s no more apprehension of what might happen in the future because it is already secure.

I’m talking about life in the New Earth. when I think of the things that I want to do here on this present earth like jet skiing, sailing on yacht, exploring underwater in a glass submarine, visiting all the beautiful sceneries in this world in a glass chopper. But all these things cost a fortune. But I take comfort in knowing that I’d do all of them in the New Earth.

Perhaps I wouldn’t even need a chopper anymore because I would be flying  myself instead visiting not only the scenic spots here on earth but on the other planets and galaxies in the whole, vast universe.

Some people portray heaven or the new Earth as in the primitive period–no technologies. But I think that there’s gonna be even more. I’d like to think of this earth  as nothing compared to what we are gonna have in the New Earth. The most high-tech Swiss town will be nothing compared to that Paradise restored. Roads will be made of gold, cars don’t get rusty anymore and they will be more high-tech than Batman’s armour car or James Bond’s remote controlled BMW. Everything we have here on earth will be made perfect in heaven. There would be gadgets we could have never perceived they exist. I will be surfing ocean waves with no fear of shark attacks. I would be even riding on a dolphin’s back. I can go safari and ride on a lion’s back. What a fantastic life I would have.

But as it is written, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him” 1 Corinthians 2:9 (ISV).

I can’t wait.
