Rahab the outsider

Published by dzanang under Women in the Bible Edit This

She went against her people to save God’s people which eventually led to saving her household.  Though she was engaged in a morally-low profession, Rahab allowed herself to be involved in God’s purpose for her doomed city, Jericho.  She was not only a prostitute but she was also a heathen woman.  Nevertheless in her heart she feared and obeyed the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob. God also showed his equal love to all people regardless of their race or tongue.

When the day came for God to destroy Jericho and its inhabitants, Rahab was saved and eventually became the great, great grandmother of Israel’s future great King David which ultimately became the great, great, great grandmother of Jesus.

I find the story of Rahab and Ruth very touching and striking. Their stories show what kind of Saviour we have.  Jesus did not choose to be a descendant of well-known people with good reputations. It shows us that God accepts everyone as his own.
