The Results of Sin
Reflecting on the lesson last week, I would like to emphasize on the results of sin as enumerated throughout the week.
Sin enslaves 2 Peter 2: 19 says “They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.” So sin has enslaved us in the sense that we are not in control of the things we do.
Furthermore, Romans 6:16 states “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?” If we cannot do away with sinning it’s because it has enslaved us.
Sin separates us from God and causes us to fear Him
After Adam and Eve had eaten the foridden fruit and saw that they were naked they sewed fig leaves to cover their shamefulness and they hid from God.
Similarly, when we sin we try to justify our actions and when danger arises we pray for God’s deliverance. Sometimes people blame God for their suffering indicating that we humans acknowledge that our sinful nature shuts us away from God’s blessings. And we try to do good because we are afraid that God will cast us away. But God’s providence is not the result of our good deeds. It’s simply an act of love from the one who Created us.
In a surge of anger
I hid my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting kindness
I will have compassion on you,”
says the LORD your Redeemer, Isaiah 54:8 NIV
Sin results to death
Ultimately, the most dangerous effect of sin is death. When Adam sinned, all of his offsprings inherited the consequence. But with the death of One man also has all been pardoned and saved.
Romans 3:23 says, For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
