The Atonement
Yesterday I talked about God’s plan of redemption as a reflection on last week’s lesson. As a continuation, this week discusses the Atonement and how it was announced right from the moment man fell into sin down through the ages.
In the beginning sentence the phrase “deadly reality and power of sin” caused me to react. God knew of that even before he created man and so why did He still created us?
Consider this verse:
Isaiah 53:5 & 6
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
Or if I may put it this way, Why did the Godhead make the the process of atonement so complicated? It’s complicated in the sense that One who is spotless and that’s no other than the Son of God had to redeem the fallen creature with His precious blood. Why didn’t they just make it simple to forgive man without all of this costly sacrifices? Why is atonement necessary?
This week I am going to focus on this topic. I do hope and pray that God will enlighten me and that He will lead me the way.
