Why do we keep on sinning?

Published by dzanang under reflection Edit This

If we know the gravity of sin and how God reacts to it why do we keep on sinning? We know that Jesus died in our place to redeem us from the ruinous effect of sin yet why do we keep on sinning? As I study this quarter’s lesson I am reminded once again of the destorying power of sin and how Jesus suffered to save me from my fallen state. I get to understand better the relationship between sinning and atonement Jesus had done in my behalf like the shedding of blood and all that. And I am embarrassed at my insensitivity towards sin.

Why do I keep on sinning? Perhaps it’s because I haven’t really grasped the whole idea of atonement. If I think of Jesus as a normal friend who suffered blows and beatings because he saved me from an angry mob that I have upset for sure I would consider sin as an embarrassing thing that I should definitely avoid otherwise I would put him in the same situation again. And that’s what we are doing to Jesus everytime we fall into sin.

It’s because Jesus didn’t do it in an obvious way that is why we tend to ignore the fact that He died for our sin. He took the punishment that should have been ours in order for our life to be a clean slate so that we can claim that we are righteous and worthy to inherit  eternal life.
