Safe in His Hands
When I was a little girl, I went to Manila with my mother and it was my first time to ride in a big boat. I stayed for a month in Manila and when it was time to go back to Palawan I felt sad. I liked it better in Manila for obvious reason. But school was starting soon so I must go back home.
It was sometime in first week of June and the start of rainy season or stormy season rather. I don’t know why the captain didn’t consult the weather bureau before we set sail. For in the middle of the sea the ship started to rock. Huge waves were tossing our big boat but I was too young to care. At the age of nine I had not the slightest idea on the danger we were in. I could only recall the event based on my mother’s story. She said that many passengers were crying, “It’s our doom day!”
My mother said that while the storm was tossing our boat she prayed that if it sank God will send a big fish to swallow us, her, my eldest sister and me, and spit it us out on the shore just Jonah. Also travelling with us were my Aunt Percing and cousin Lani.
Anyway, I couldn’t remember all the details of that event but we landed home safely with God’s help. Looking back now I could only marvel at how God protected us. Had it happened when I was older I would have been very scared during the voyage and probably developed a fear in the sea.
