The Lord’s Prayer
When I started school I was amazed at about a lot of things. My classmates were praying in English! That’s cool! Since we were in a multi-grade school meaning two or more grade levels under one teacher, those who were ahead of us were assigned to say the morning prayer. And everyday I would hear everyone praying the same thing. Eventually, it got schematized in my subconscious brain and one day on my way home I suprised myself by reciting the whole prayer silently.
Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts
As we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptations
But deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom
And the power and the glory forever
Amen
That’s it! How did I do that? Well, by constantly hearing the same thing everyday for five days a week, any boy or girl will record the data in his/her mind.
But what does that mean? I think that’s where my teacher failed because she didn’t explain to us, new pupils, what the prayer meant. We just learned it along the way as we advanced in grade.
